IT IS THE SAME WIND THAT BLOWS THE SWALLOWS SOUTH THAT BRINGS THE FIRST WIGEON.

I’ve just got back from the first Wildfowling trip this year with special guest appearance from the Shropshire boys – Neil Brown and Terry Griffiths:- together with my good friend Shane Robinson.
Wow what a great start! Roast ducks all round! Terry pictured above, never having seen an estuary before, had the lion’s share of the sport. I got soaking wet from the waist down setting out the decoys, really quite cold being motionless for four hours. Really should have repaired those waders last season.

Neil managed to bag his very first Pintail. What a result!

Shane took an early shot at geese and missed! …No surprise there.

Being a big tide Terry and I were forced to take refuge at “Tom’s Post”, until the tide dropped.

Last week No 1 son James Green found a cracking spot on the North Somerset coast. Several hefty Conger came aboard.

Two days later I discovered the early season Cod are in! Very nice fish, but nothing to match my personal best this Autumn with this stunning near double figure Bass from my kayak.

Proper good way to kick off the autumn season.
